Dogus was awarded a €153m contract covering construction, electromechanical works and vehicle procurement by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) in December 2016. Alstom will design and supply the continuous traction system for the fleet of 30 LRVs being delivered by Durmazlar, Turkey, under a contract signed with Dogus on January 19. Alstom will also provide spare parts and equipment with a warranty period of two years as well as testing and commissioning of the APS system and training of maintenance personal and administrative staff.

Line T5 will run from an interchange with Line T1 at Eminönü to Alibeyköy station on the future Mecidiyeköy - Mahmutbey metro line. The line will have 14 stations each with 60m-long platforms and capacity for 114,000 passengers per day. Journeys between termini will take around 35 minutes.

IMM chairman, Mr Mevlüt Uysal, said in November that work on the project is progressing well and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
