DÜSSELDORF public transport operator Rheinbahn announced on July 11 that it has secured a €150m loan from the European Investment Bank which will be used to fund a €300m investment in the city's light rail and bus networks.

Under the programme Rheinbahn will acquire 40 new high-floor LRVs and refurbish its fleet of around 100 type B60 and NF6 trams. It will also invest in step-free access at tram stations and construct a new administration building, which will include a new centralised control centre for the 147km network.

The project is due to be completed by 2018.
