NUREMBERG Transport has awarded a consortium of Iftec, Germany, and Vossloh Kiepe a €5.1m contract to modernise its fleet of 14 GT6N and 26 GT8N trams, which were originally supplied by a consortium of Adtranz and Siemens in 1995-2000.

The work will be carried out at Iftec’s workshops in Leipzig and involves a comprehensive refurbishment of the passenger area, an exterior repaint in VAG’s new livery and various other corrective and preventative maintenance measures.

The refurbishment programme will begin in October and all 40 vehicles are due to be treated by January 2022.
