A HANDOVER ceremony has been held in Krakow to mark the delivery of the last of 74 Flexity Classic low-floor light rail vehicles to Krakow Transport Authority (MPK).

The first order for 12 26m-long NGT6 vehicles was placed with Bombardier in 1998, and MPK exercised an option for an additional 12 vehicles in 2001. This was followed by a further order for 24 vehicles in 2006.

In June 2010 MPK placed a €58.7m order with a consortium of Bombardier and Vossloh Kiepe for 24 NGT8 vehicles, which at 32m in length are 6m longer than their predecessors with capacity for up to 229 passengers. The first NGT8 vehicle was handed over to MPK in October 2012.

Krakow's 85km tram network has 25 routes with 358 stops and carries around 190 million passengers per year.
