The 24.9km line will have 13 stations and an end-to-end journey time of 32 minutes. Services will operate at five minute intervals at peak times to provide capacity of 9000 passenger per hour per direction. A fleet of 31 30m-long LRVs will be required, each with capacity for up to 250 passengers.
Prospective bidders can register their interest in participating in the request for proposals at www.mauritiuslightrapidtransit.com and supporting documents will be released by the ministry on February 18. The closing date for registrations is March 15, and expressions of interest must be submitted by April 12.
Last September the government appointed Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, Aurecon and Singapore Mass Transit Corporation to provide technical advisory services, and they are due to complete a project action management plan by October.
According to local media reports, an invitation to tender is due to be issued by September with the aim of starting construction by 2014.
