The new 5.5km Trafford Park line, which will increase the size of the network to 103km serving 99 stops, will branch off from the existing Pomona stop. It will have six new tram stops including Wharfside, serving Old Trafford football stadium.

The £350m funding for the scheme, which takes into account design and construction of the line, land acquisition, utility work and more, comes from the ‘Earn Back’ deal, which was part of the Devolution Agreement, and a £20m contribution from Trafford Council. Work on the new line is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

WSP will continue as TfGM’s delivery partner as work continues on Metrolink’s latest expansion.
