The 36.85m-long vehicles, which are classified type T1 by MVG, will accommodate up to 220 passengers.
Six of the vehicles have been ordered to increase frequencies on the existing network, while the remaining two will expand fleet capacity in readiness for the opening of the 2.7km tram extension from Max Weber Platz to Berg-am-Laim S-Bahn station in 2015.
The vehicles are being assembled at Siemens' Simmering plant in Vienna. The first vehicle is currently undergoing tests at the Wegberg-Wildenrath test track, while the second will be tested in Munich.
