The project involves replacing traction substations on the Guadalupe Corridor south of San Jose, which date back to the opening of the line in 1987.

Siemens will provide traction substations, protection communication devices, circuit breakers, and control systems, which will remotely monitor the electrification system and automatically report faults.

Commissioning is due to begin in November.

The project is being funded by a federal grant with match funding from VTA’s 2017 budget.
