Konya currently operates a fleet of more than 20 Duewag GT8 high-floor trams which were acquired from Cologne in the 1990s.
The contract represent's Škoda's first order from a Turkish customer for complete light rail vehicles, although Škoda Electric has supplied electrical equipment for trams used in Istanbul.
