The 50m-long vehicle was delivered by road in two sections to Bahnhofsplatz, where it was unloaded and coupled before moving under its own power to AB’s depot at Speichler.

The vehicles were ordered in 2014 as part of the Durchmesserlinie project to connect the Trogen - St Gallen and St Gallen - Appenzell lines with a 700m tunnel beneath St Gallen town centre. This will enable AB to abandon rack operation on the line to Trogen.

Each bidirectional 2.4m-wide vehicle accommodates 240 standing passengers, seating 133 in standard class and 12 in first class.

The fleet is due to enter service in August.
