The tender calls for the supply of 15-20 vehicles, which will be maintained by the manufacturer for a minimum of 10 years. The contract will include options for additional vehicles and the extension of the maintenance term by up to 30 years.
Transtech’s competitors in the tender included CAF, Pesa and Stadler Rail Valencia.
Transtech submitted a bid of €3.2-3.8m per vehicle based on a 37m-long LRV, with the price depending on the final order volume.
The Tralli consortium of VR Track, YIT and Pöry Finland was selected in June for the contract to build the 23.5km line from Tampere city centre to the University of Tampere and Hervanta.
Both the rolling stock and construction contracts are due to be signed later this month after Tampere City Council has made a final decision on whether to proceed with the project. Construction will start next year and Phase 1 will open in 2021.
