WLB needs to replace older high-floor vehicles built between 1979 and 1996 and also intends to increase the service between Wiener Neudorf and Baden, which currently operates at 15-minute intervals.
WLB launched a tender for up to 24 new vehicles in the summer and bids are now being evaluated. Deliveries are due to begin in 2020.
WLB carries 35,000 passengers per day and ridership continues to increase.
