Due to the frequency of typhoons in the region, the 14-station Line 1 is entirely catenary-free, using the TramWave ground power supply system developed by Ansaldo STS and supplied by China Tramway Corporation, a joint venture of CNR Dalian (now CRRC Dalian) and Taiwan General Resources Corporation.

AnsaldoBreda (now Hitachi Rail Italy) supplied the first two Sirio bidirectional five-section low-floor LRVs for the line, with CNR Dalian assembling the remaining eight. The 32m-long vehicles accommodate 276 passengers, 66 of them seated.

A 10.2km north-south Line 2 is planned, which will interchange with Line 1 at Meihua Road station.
