According to the tender, the locomotives must be approved for operation in Austria and other European countires.
GKB currently operates a fleet of nine diesel-hydraulic locomotives built by Jenbacher, Austria, in 1973-78, two Vossloh G1700s and two former German Rail (DB) class 211s. With the exception of the Vossloh locomotives the fleet is old and maintenance costs are increasing.
As some of the Jenbacher locomotives operate passenger services formed of double-deck push-pull coaches the new locomotives will need to be equipped for this type of operation. The tender closes on October 5.
