Vale subsidiary VLI is acquiring 12 six-axle AC44i locomotives for its fleet, while Rumo, which recently acquired Latin America Logistics (ALL), has ordered seven units. The loans will cover 50% of the total investment.

The Brazilian federal government says that it approved financing for 24 separate rail investment projects with a total value of Reais 17.3 billion between 2007 and 2014,. This included Reais 3.4bn for 485 locomotives, which are now in service with various operators.
