THE first three Traxx AC3 electric locomotives for German open-access rail freight operator RheinCargo was handed over at Bombardier’s Kassel plant on November 25.

The remaining seven locomotives will be delivered by the end of the year, and the 140km/h 15kV 16.7Hz units will be used on long-distance freight services within Germany.

The purchase of the locomotives is the most significant investment in RheinCargo’s fleet since it was founded with the merger of Cologne Ports and Freight (HGK) and Neuss-Düsseldorf Port.
