Bombardier rolls out first Traxx DC3 locomotive Bombardier

THE first Bombardier Traxx DC3 electric locomotive left the company’s plant at Vado Ligure near Genoa on February 12 bound for Trenitalia’s Osmannoro test centre near Florence, where static and dynamic testing will be carried out.

The launch customer for the DC3 is Mercitalia Rail, which signed a €210m contract with Bombardier in December 2017 encompassing the supply of 40 3kV dc locomotives and 16 years’ maintenance. Deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

Italian open-access freight operator GTS Rail has also ordered five DC3s, which will be delivered next year.
