CTDOT purchased the locomotives from CSX in 1996 and since then they have operated services on the Shore Line East commuter service, which uses the Northeast Corridor in southern Connecticut.

The project will enable the locomotives to provide another “life cycle” of passenger service on the Hartford Line, and NRE says its capability to produce over 90% of the locomotive’s content in-house was a deciding factor in it securing the five-year contract.

NRE has committed to delivering each locomotive within 450 days of receiving it from CTDOT.

“As we continue to grow and expand our capacity and capabilities, we intend to more aggressively pursue transit system contracts,” says Mr Brandon Bullard, marketing director of NRE. “This contract is only the tip of the iceberg of where we’re headed in the transit industry.”
