CSR Qishyuan, China, has begun delivery of an order for 20 six-axle metre-gauge SDA3 diesel locomotives for State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

The first two of the 120km/h ac traction units were unloaded at the Thai port of Laem Chabang on January 4.

The 120-tonne freight locomotives are equipped with a 16-cylinder Caterpillar C175-16 power unit providing a nominal output of 2.8MW and a maximum starting tractive effort of 460kN. The engines are compliant with European Union Stage 3A emissions standards.

Trials using the first two units are expected to begin later this month.
