The 25kv ac 50Hz locomotive was transported over the railway from the port to Israel Railways' nearby Kishon workshop where completion works will take place.

While no sections of Israel's railway network are electrified yet, work will be completed soon on a section of the new A1 Tel Aviv - Jerusalem railway link near Latrun monastery where tests are expected to take place.

Israel Railways ordered 62 of the 160km/h locomotives in a Shekels 1bn ($US 280m) contract signed in October 2015.

The locomotives are being built at Bombardier's Kassel plant, while two further units have undergone dynamic tests at the Velim test circuit in the Czech Republic.
