According to a report in Italian newspaper La Stampa, the contract will be finalised within the next few weeks.
TX Logistik and Mercitalia invited expressions of interest in February for a contract to supply at least 70 locomotives, with deliveries starting in the third quarter of 2018.
The order for Mercitalia Rail will comprise 30 5.2MW 3kV dc locomotives, with an option for 30 additional units. TX Logistik requires a minimum of 40 5.6MW multisystem (15kV/25kV ac and 1.5kV/3kV dc) with an option for a further 25 units.
The supplier will maintain both fleets for around 15 years and will have full Entity in Charge of Maintainance (ECM) responsibility.
