The 5.7MW class 186 locomotives will start to enter service in the first quarter of 2018. Each 140km/h locomotive has two ac pantographs and two dc pantographs, while each of the four axles is driven by a nose-suspended traction motor.

Metrans, which is a subsidiary of port operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA), currently owns 50 mainline locomotives and 17 shunters for operation in its intermodal terminals.

“With more of our own locomotives at our disposal, we can do an even better job of managing the transport process,” says Mr Peter Kiss, executive board member of Metrans. “This will allow us to be more reliable, to be more flexible in response to the requests of our cus¬tomers and to offer new services. Next year, we will be looking to accomplish this goal mainly in Poland, where Metrans is taking over from the HHLA subsidiary Polzug.”
