The contract is worth SFr 23m ($US 22.7m) and was signed by MGB director Mr Fernando Lehner as well as Stadler’s executive vice president of marketing and sales Mr Peter Jenelten.

The new shunting locomotives will replace life-expired diesel locomotives and will reduce noise and exhaust emissions.

All three of the types of locomotives on order will have the same driver’s cab, traction, and control structure to standardise operations for drivers.
