The locomotive was delivered to Velim on September 15, and while it still has the same motors, bogies and compressors, other electric components have been renewed, including cables and wires. The locomotive also has a single-cab so that it is suitable for push-pull operation.

Italian State Railways (FS) signed a contract with CAF in 2014 to modernise 40 of the locomotives, with work getting underway in 2015. Once completed the locomotives will be reclassified as class 401. This particular unit, 402-013, has been out of service following an accident near Terni in 2007. The locomotive was sent to Velim as part of a mixed freight train from Foligno, arriving on September 15.
