PHU has acquired the prototype Gama Marathon 111Ed last-mile, which was unveiled by Pesa at InnoTrans in Berlin in September 2012, together with two new-build units.
The 111Ed is a 5.6MW 3kV dc Bo-Bo unit equipped with Pesa's Marathon last-mile diesel engine system, which enables it to operate over limited distances on non-electrified lines. The locomotive has a starting tractive effort of 300kN and a maximum speed of 160km/h.
The prototype locomotive underwent three months of trials with Ecco Rail before the deal was signed.
