THE first Bombardier Traxx MS2E locomotive for RegioJet entered passenger service with the Czech open-access operator on May 16, working the 17.48 Prague Hlavní - Ostrava - Návsí service.

A second locomotive of an initial batch of four units made its maiden commercial run with the operator on May 17.

RegioJet awarded Bombardier a contract in 2017 to supply eight of the 160km/h locomotives, with an option for 20 more. RegioJet is the first operator to use Traxx locomotives for passenger services in the Czech Republic.

In a addition to the Prague - Ostrava route, the fleet will be deployed on international services from the Czech capital to Košice, Bratislava and Vienna.

RegioJet is also taking delivery of 16 passenger coaches from Astra this year, and the first two will enter service shortly.

RejioJet is expanding its fleet to cope with what is describes as record growth in passenger numbers this year. Traffic increased by 30% during the first quarter of 2018 to 1.25 million passengers largely due to the introduction of a new service between Prague and Vienna which has been used by nearly 200,000 passengers during the first three months of this year.
