GE Evolution locomotives will be supplied to Rio Tinto for operation on its Pilbara iron-ore heavy-haul operations in Western Australia. This latest order will increase the number of locomotives supplied by UGL and GE to Rio Tinto to 160.
The other three contracts are for type C44ACi locomotives which will be supplied to QR National, Pacific National in Victoria, and to Xstrata Coal Australia for operation by Freightliner Australia in the Hunter Valley. The latter deal includes an eight-year maintenance contract.
