AN Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) RailJet train made a special tour through the Czech Republic yesterday in preparation for the launch of joint operation of RailJet trains by ÖBB and Czech Railways (CD) in December 2014 on the Graz – Vienna Brno – Prague corridor. The service will operate at two-hourly intervals.

The push-pull RailJet set was powered by an ÖBB multi-system class 1216 locomotive and CD wanted to test its operation on its 3kV dc electrification system. RailJet normally operates with class 1116 locomotives on lines electrified at 15kV ac in Austria and Switzerland and 25kV ac in Hungary. CD also wanted to verify RailJet's operating parameters and the functioning of its information systems in the Czech Republic.

The train travelled in a loop from Vienna via Breclav, Brno, Ceska Trebova, Olomouc and Prerov before returning to Breclav and Vienna.
