Icomera says that work on test trains will begin this summer and installation on the existing fleet will be completed by the end of 2016.

The project consists of installing Icomera's X-Series open application and connectivity platform which supports passenger Wi-Fi. The system will be available throughout first and second class, and will replace the existing ICE onboard Wi-Fi solution currently only available in first class ICE coaches.

Delivering on-board Wi-Fi is a major element of DB's Mobility 4.0 strategy, as outlined by CEO Dr Rüdiger Grube at the Fourth Railway Forum in Berlin in March.
