Frequencies will almost double to one train per hour, with alternate trains extending beyond Wurzburg to Schweinfurt and Bamberg, and there will be more services in the evening and at weekends. Infrastructure improvements on the Spessart line, including the construction of a new alignment between Laufach and Heigenbrücken, will allow reduced journey times from December 2016.

DB will order a fleet of Bombardier Twindexx double-deck emus, which will provide a 25% increase in peak seating capacity on the route. DB Regio has also committed to provide a conductor on every train.
