As a result First Hull Trains will push ahead with its plans to replace its fleet of four five-car class 180 DMUs with five bi-mode electric-diesel trains. The new trains would have a maximum speed of 225km/h compared with 200km/h for the existing DMUs. Each train will have 320 seats which is 50% more than the existing trains.

In September 2015, First Hull Trains said the trains would be supplied by Hitachi Rail Europe and acquired through a rolling stock leasing company at an estimated cost of £68m. They are expected to enter service in 2020.
