Total ridership reached 292.4 million, a 4.3% increase compared with 2015 and the highest level since 2002, when 304.1 million passengers were carried. The total distance travelled in 2016 climbed 9.9% year-on-year to 19.2bn passenger-km, the highest level since 2008.
In 2016 Poland’s passenger operators covered a total of 159.9 million train-km, a 11.5% increase compared with 2015.

“We have had a good year in passenger transport,” says UTK president Mr Ignacy Góra. “With more than 290 million passengers it’s clear travellers are returning to rail. New comfortable rolling stock and improving journey times have certainly made an impact.”
