Specifically, the work comprises rehabilitation of the Brasov - Apata and Cata - Sighisoara sections of the line, which totals 86km, to enable line speeds of up to 160km/h. The project also aims to improve safety, offer enhanced facilities at stations, including for passengers with reduced mobility, and install modern signalling and telecommunications equipment.

Financing for the project is provided by the European Commission (EC) through the European Interconnection Mechanism (85%) with the remainder coming from the state budget.

According to CFR SA, a further tender for work on the intermediate section between Apata and Cata will be launched soon.

The deadline for offers is February 1 at 16.00. Prospective bidders can download the tender documents at www.e-locotatie.ro.
