A ceremony was held in the German state of Baden-Württemberg on November 11 to mark the start of electrification works on the 17km Schönbuch Railway from Böblingen to Dettenhausen.

The €93.8m project, which includes the construction of a new EMU maintenance depot, is due to be completed in December 2018.

Electrification of the line at 15kV 16.7Hz ac is part of a broader programme of enhancements to enable the operation of 15-minute interval services on the Schönbuch Railway, which is operated by Transdev Germany subsidiary Württemberg Railway Company (WEG).
