The contract will be split into two parts. Phase 1 will start on December 12 2021, last for one year, and covers the operation of 500,000 train-km on the Freilassing - Berchtesgaden line. Phase 2 will be for 14 years and run from December 11 2022 until December 14 2036 and will add the (Freilassing -) Traunstein - Ruhpolding line with another 200,000 train-km per annum.
BEG will retain the right to alter train frequencies and timetables, and amend staffing levels for security and on-board services.
The winner will not be obliged to acquire new rolling stock. While existing trains can be used, they must have been constructed since 2000.
The closing date for bids is August 17 2018.
