Yildirim, who took part in a 2.5km test run on the 9.2km line on August 31, announced a 3.5km extension of the line from Atatürk Cultural Center to Ankara’s mainline station.
The cost of the project is reported to have reached Lira 1bn ($US 330m). Test running continue for at least two-and-a-half months.
The line is forecast to carry 50,000 passengers an hour and 800,000 passengers per day. An end to end trip is expected to take 16 minutes, compared with 90 minutes by road. The line connects with Metro Line M1 at Atatürk Cultural Center.
