PT MRT Jakarta, which is owned by the city, confirmed that consortia of Obayashi, Shimizu and Wijaya Karya, and Sumitomo and Hutama Karaya have been selected as the final round candidates. The winner of the tender will be chosen on October 4, and confirmed on October 11.

Construction on the first phase of the MRT project from Lebak Bulus in southern Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in the city centre, which includes a central station and a depot, is expected to begin before the end of the year and be completed by 2016. The line will include six underground and seven above-ground stations, and is estimated to cost $US 1.85bn. The majority of these costs will be covered by a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
