Bids invited for Salvador metro expansion Hentzer

THE government of the Brazilian state of Bahia launched the tendering process on June 21 for the construction, operation, and maintenance of Salvador Metro Line 2, together with an extension of Line 1.

The project is being tendered as a PPP, with a 30-year long concession. The winning bidder will be selected on the basis of the lowest-cost offer.

The Reais 3.5bn ($US 1.7bn) project comprises the 5.6km northern extension of Line 1 from Acesso Norte to Pirajá, which will have three stations, and Line 2, which will run for 24.2km from an interchange with Line 1 at Bonocô Avenue to Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport and Lauro de Freitas.

Construction is expected to start in 2013 and both lines will be completed in 2016.

Bidding documents can be viewed for free for two months at www.sedur.ba.gov.br/metro.
