The tender, which is being funded by the World Bank, is for 750V dc standard-gauge trains. Bids must be submitted to Guadalajara Urban Electric Train System (Siteur) by October 19.

The additional trains will enable Siteur to increase capacity on Line 1 by lengthening trains by a third to six-car sets with each carrying up to 900 passengers. To accommodate longer trains station platforms are being extended from 60m to 90m. Line 1 has 12 surface stations and seven underground, all of which will be renovated.

Line 1 is also being extended 1km north which will increase the length of the line to 16.5km.
