The initial 20.1km section of the east-west Line 9 from Fei'eling to Gaozeng serves 11 stations, including an interchange with main line services at Guangzhou North Station.

Line 13 runs east for 27km from an interchange with Line 5 at Yuzhu to Xinsha, serving densely-populated areas of Liwan, Yuexiu, and Tianhe. The line is the first in the city to use eight-car type A metro trains, which operate at up to 100km/h. Each 186m-long, 3m-wide train accommodates up to 3456 passengers.

To the northeast of the city, the initial 21.9km section of Line 14 from Xinhe to Zhenlong serves 10 stations. CBTC for the new line was supplied by the Thales Saic Transportation joint venture.

Meanwhile, services on Line 4 have been extended from Jinzhou to Nansha Ferry Port, adding a new 12.6km section at the southern end of the line and providing connections with ferry services to Hong Kong.
