A total of 78 F76 vehicles will be modernised by February 2017 at Iftec's workshops in Leipzig. As the major contractor to BVG, Vossloh Kiepe is responsible for electrical works, including rewiring, assembly of electrical components and electronic communications systems, and upgrading of heating and ventilation systems. Subcontractor Iftec is carrying our mechanical work, including modernisation of interiors and exterior repainting. Following consultation with passengers the trains are also being adapted to make them more accessible for people with disabilities.
The F76 fleet was introduced in the 1970s and is used on Berlin's large-profile U-Bahn lines.
