The 51km metro will run from an interchange with the KTM commuter station at Sungai Buloh to KL Sentral station, Maluri and Kajang. Around 80% of the route will be on viaduct, with the remainder running underground. A fleet of 58 four-car trains will be required to operate a peak 3.5-minute-interval service. The line is due to open in 2017, and is expected to carry around 445,000 passengers per day.

IJM's contract is worth Ringgits 974m ($US 320.2m) and covers construction of the viaduct on the section between the eastern portal of the city centre tunnel at Maluri and Plaza Phoenix station.

AZRB will build the viaduct between Plaza Phoenix and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, in a contract worth Ringgits 764m.
