The consortium will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the contactless smart card system on the 22.9km north-south line linking Munshi Pulia with Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. The line, which is known as Phase 1A, will have 22 stations, 19 of which will be elevated and three underground. The initial 8.4km section of the line is due to open in 2017.
The two companies will also train operating and maintenance staff to use the fare collection system.
"This signing of a contract for providing the automatic fare collection system for Lucknow Metro has now taken us much closer towards implementation of system contracts," Mr Kumar Keshav, managing director of LMRC, says. "We are putting our best efforts to commission the project by December 2016."
Meanwhile, Alstom has unveiled the design of the Metropolis trains which it is supplying to Lucknow.
