Line 6, which will be 44.5km long and have 27 stations, is included in Xiamen's Urban Rail Transit 2015-2022 plan which calls for a six-line network, covering more than 240km and including 138 stations.
Line 1 is currently under construction and will connect Xiamen Island with Jimei district. It will be 30km long with 23 stations. Trial operation is scheduled for October 2017.
Other new projects announced include phase 2 of Line 2, which will connect Tianzhu Mountain station and Lu Keng station and will be 15.5km long and have nine stations. Meanwhile phase 2 of Line 3 will be 22.5km long and run from Wuyuan Bay to the new Xiang'an International Airport with 13 stations. Line 4 is also planned and will run for 38km, connecting Xiamen North and Xiang'an International Airport with eight stations.
