Preferred bidder chosen for Mecca metro project

A joint venture of Isolux Corsan, Spain, Turkish construction company Kolin, and Haif Contracting, Saudi Arabia, has been selected as preferred bidder for a contract to carry out civil works on two sections of the initial 44km phase of the metro network in the Saudi Arabian holy city of Mecca.

The contract covers an 11.9km section of Line B with three stations and a 13km section of Line C with six stations, including two major interchanges. The joint venture will construct 19.61km of mined tunnels, 8.74km of bored tunnels, and 4.1km of cut and cover tunnel, together with 1.18km of viaduct.

The total budget for the two sections is €2.3bn.
