Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) says the initial stages of testing are focusing on gauging and the performance of rolling stock subsystems. Over the next few months the test programme will validate the operation of CBTC, train braking, interaction between the trains and the operational control centre, and overhead electrification.

The 38.2km line follows the outer ring road south of the city from Janakpuri West to Hauz Khas, Kalindj Kunj, and Botanical Garden in Noida. Line 8 will have 25 stations, 15 of them underground, and 19km of the route will be elevated or at grade with 17.3km in tunnels.

Services will be operated by a fleet of Hyundai-Rotem driverless trains, three of which have now been delivered Kalindi Kunj depot. CBTC for the project was provided by Nippon Signal, Japan.
