Thales wins Bangkok metro fare collection contract

BANGKOK Expressway Metro and C H Karnchang have awarded a contract to Thales to provide an automatic fare collection system for two extensions to the Blue Line which will have a total of 19 stations.

Thales will supply its TransCity system and will expand the fare collection capability of the 18 stations which it has already equipped on the existing part of the Blue Line as ridership on the line is expected to rise to more than 230,000 passengers per day when the extensions have been completed.

Thales will expand its team of local engineers to support this and future projects. The team will also train local industry to develop existing fare collection systems.

The two extensions to the Blue Line will run 11.9km from Tao Poon south to Tha Phra, and 13.9km west from Hua Lamphong via Tha Phra to Lak Song.
