CHENGDU added a northeast - southwest line to its metro network on July 31 with the start of trial operation on the initial phase of Line 3 (Magenta Line) from Chengdu Junqu General Hospital to Taipingyuan.

The 20.4km line has 17 stations including interchanges with lines 1, 2, 4 and the future Line 7. The line is equipped with 1.5kV dc electrification.

Two further phases are due to be completed in 2018, increasing the total length of the line to 49.2km.

CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles has supplied 24 six-car trains for phase 1 and is set to deliver a further 48 trains for phases 2 and 3. The traction equipment for all three phases is supplied by Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment and comprises Alstom’s OptOnix system.
