The Rials 157 million ($US 43.1m) extension means the joint venture will continue to work on the project until its completion in 2019.
The 22km 11-station Green Line will link Al Mansoura in the east with Al Riffa in the west, and ridership is forecast to reach 140,000 passengers per day by 2021.
