No trains will operate between Haifa and Nahariya between May 26 and May 31 to enable the laying of a new single-track line. This will bypass the existing double-track line which will be taken out use to enable construction of the new junction.

As the track works are expected to take about six months to complete, a special timetable will be introduced. Suburban services will be cancelled between Haifa and Nahariya and inter-city trains will call at intermediate stations to compensate.

Tracklaying is underway on the 60km Valley Line from Haifa to Sheikh Hussain bridge where it is ultimately hoped to connect the line to the Jordanian rail network. The $US 1bn project incorporates part of the alignment of the old Hedjaz Railway which closed in 1951. Freight and passenger services are due to start next year.
